The course introduces the fundamental concepts of natural hazards, disaster risk, and risk mitigation strategies. Students explore the physical processes that generate hazardous events and examine how these processes interact with human exposure and vulnerability. The course covers a wide range of hazards, including geological hazards (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides), hydrometeorological hazards (floods, storms, droughts), and extraterrestrial hazards. Special attention is given to the assessment, forecasting, and management of risks, as well as to the role of modern technologies such as GIS, remote sensing, and spatial analysis in hazard monitoring and mitigation.
